Latest Cards

As usual it's busy, busy, busy round here.  We've just put L down for swimming lessons at the local leisure centre.  He'll be 4 at the end of November so I thought it was about time we took him.  I used to take him swimming when he was a baby but he suffered with so many colds when he was little that it put me off taking him in the end.  Which was such a shame but the sleepless nights when he had a cold were horrendous!

He goes on a Monday at 4pm, my thinking there was that he shouldn't be too tired on a Monday and 4pm was the earliest lesson.  So far, so good.  He went straight in and joined in with the others fine.  Getting him out well that's another matter!

I've been busy making cards for a local beauty salon to stock.

The acceptance and regret cards were for a friend who had been invited to 2 weddings.

I've got my next papercrafting class tomorrow - looks like they'll be 5 people which is great.  Pictures of what we're making are here.

I've been doing local stalls recently and have found them to be really hit and miss, I'm not sure they attract my target market for the classes.  Instead I'm going to go into a couple of local Mums and Tots groups and hope that I get more interest there. You've got to try everything I suppose and see what works for you.

Have a good weekend everyone :)

Head spinning.........then bake

I read somewhere that if you had a lot on your mind you should bake.  Well my head is spinning at the moment!  Nothing bad just there seems to be so much to remember and think about at the moment.  So I did an old favourite - Banana and Choc Chip Cookies.  Having the banana in there makes them feel a little bit healthy!

Actually it worked!  Apparantly it's the focusing of your mind on one the task that helps, not sure how good it would be for your waist line though.  I've already had 5 today!  They taste so good with a cup of tea.  I've made them with wheat free flour too and they taste just as good.

I've been busy getting my papercrafting class ready for Saturday, I've got 7 ladies coming this month.  Numbers have steadily started to creep up which is fab, hopefully the word is out there.

If your interested in what we're making check out my other blog here.

So far, so good

Well that's 3 weeks of the summer holidays done already and it's absolutely flown by so far.  Recently I've taken L to Stonehurst Farm, which is in Mountsorrel, Leicestershire.  Definitely worth a look if you live nearby.  It's not cheap to get in but there's plenty to do and you can take a picnic with you.

This picture is from their website.

We went on this tractor ride which L loved.

As a family we camped at Oak Farm, we got there about lunchtime on the Saturday and included in the price of the pitch (£20) was entry to the farm park.  They also keep the farm park open till 10pm for those that are camping.  We could see the kids from where we were camping too so that whilst we were getting the bbq ready they could go off and play.  Another definite recommendation if you live nearby.

For some reason I completely forgot the camera for both trips, what a numpty!

I've read one of my Agatha Christie books already and I'm on to the next.  You'd think I'd had enough of her but I still watched 'A body in the library' on the TV last night.  It was a recent adaptation which was on ITV3.

I hope everyone has had a lovely weekend so far :)

I'm still here!

It's been quite awhile since I've blogged, which is becoming a familiar opening for me!  I really want to blog but sometimes feel are people really interested in what I've got to say.

But this blog is about me and what I want to say so it doesn't really matter I guess.

So much has happened since I last blogged, we've been on a family holiday to the Isle of White which was lovely.  The weather wasn't really sunny but it didn't stop us doing the things we would normally do.

Here's me and the kids on the beach, which was just a the back of the site.

H even braved the sea!

Well the kids are off school now, one week down already in fact.  We've been for days out, baked brownies, watched films and caught up with friends so far with more little things planned.  I got H to write a list of the things she wanted to do and said we would try and do as many as possible.  I'm just trying to prevent her spending 6 weeks sitting on her laptop.

We went to car boot on Sunday where we picked up a bike for L for £10 - bargain :)  He absolutely loves it, he's currently practicing riding around the house.

I picked up 25 Agatha Christie books from a stallholder for £4 - another bargain :)

I can't wait to get started on reading them.

I'm off to a friends house today with L, I shall try and catch up with everyone's blogs later when I get back.

Birthday Swap and catch up!

For those that didn't participate in the Birthday Swap it was my birthday last Friday and I was 34.  It was a lovely day, the OH got me these lovely flowers.

H took the trouble to go to Leicester with her Nana and buy my favourite L'Occitane fragrance, Cherry Blossom Shower Gel.  It's a beautiful scent, next time you see a store pop in a try it.

H and I made these cupcakes Friday night - scrummy, though they didn't last past Saturday!

I have been particapating in the Birthday Swap organised by Lynda from HookinwithLaaLaa.  And this is some of my lovely goodies sent by some very generous bloggers.

The chocolate disappeared not long after this photo was taken!

I've also received some parcels this week as it was bank holiday on Monday, I've also got a parcel waiting to be picked up at the sorting office too.

I've managed to email or comment every one who I have received a parcel from.  If I haven't emailed you then I haven't received yours yet.

I feel throughly spoiled - what a fabulous swap.

This next picture is of a stand I did recently to promote my new venture as a Stampin' Up! demonstrator.

This little cheeky chappie is L, who unfortunately has just come down with Chicken Pox :), right at the end of half term which means he'll have to have another week off playschool as he is still contagious.

I took the kids to Drayton Manor yesterday which was fab and they had great fun, I'm glad we managed to get that in before he was poorly :)

Thanks and car boot bargains

I just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who has sent me a note of encouragement and been complimentary about my cards.  I really appreciate it :)

We went to a local car boot over the Easter bank holidays and I picked up a couple of bargains.

I got these fab Oxo tins just 20p each - apparently there are 6 in the set.

I also got these 2 reels of thread just 50p each.

These jars aren't from the car boot they're from B&M Bargains, I'm not sure if that's a nationwide store but as the name suggests it does have quite a few bargains, they were only £2 for the 4.  You may be able to tell, I love storage.

I've also been busy making some cards for my friend with the Florists, when she does wedding flowers she wanted to send the couple a card from her and the shop so I've made some cards for her to give.

The weekend was spent getting samples together for my next class on Sat, I made the OH take the kids out so that I could craft in peace.  Bliss :)

If you want to see what I came up with have a look here.

Catch up soon xx

Book giveaway

I'm back from my blogging break, hasn't the weather been fabulous - just like summer.  I can't remember the last time we had so many days of sunny weather all together.  It's much cooler today but I'm ready for a break from the sun.  I'm not one for sitting out in the sun anyway but it's good that the kids can play outside.

I've had this book awhile and have nearly finished it, I won it in Vintage Mum's book giveaway and the lovely Cate put in a bookmark for me and a little chocolate heart, so thoughtful.  Cate won this book from Jille at Love to Craft.  Jille had received it from a friend at work and thought it would be nice to read and pass on.  And that's what I'm going to do.  If you would like to receive this book please leave a comment.

I forgot to show these in my last post, H bought them for me for Mother's Day.  They have only just been thrown away, so pretty :)

This is what L did for me at playschool, very cute!

This is what H made me at school.

Handmade gifts mean so much more.

I hope everyone has been enjoying the lovely weather and the Easter hols are going well for all those with children.  I've realised that I have been blogging for a year now and I shall be doing a giveaway very soon.

New adventure

It's lovely and sunny here today, they reckon it should be around 20 degrees, I'll have a bit of that :)

I've decided to embark on a new venture, I'm going to be starting papercrafting classes in my local area.  It's in conjuction with a company called Stampin' Up!, they are an American company and I use their materials in the class and hopefully sell some of them too :)

So I started up another blog Crafting Up a Storm to talk about this.  If you want to have a look please do though don't feel obliged to follow!

I've been putting up posters and this week I have been posting leaflets through doors, around 150 a day, which takes about an hour.  I've not had one call!  Very disheartening but the exercise wont hurt I guess.

If anyone has any tips then I'd love to hear them or if anyone lives in the Leicestershire area and are interested get in touch!

Both of these cards were made using Stampin' Up! papers and/or stamps.

Thanks for listening

Latest card makes & an award

What lovely sunshine we're having at the moment, I'm loving it.  I'm not one to sit out in the sun but it's great not having to wear a coat and L can play outside and get some fresh air.

I've been busy making cards for my friend's flower shop ready for Mother's Day, hopefully they will sell well.

I have been a bit quiet on the making front too but anything that I have made has been for the Birthday swap so I haven't been able to show.  I just wanted to show off a hanging heart that I made though, I sent this off to Crafty Mum, and I'm really pleased with how it turned out!  The red and white stripey material was actually a top of H's!  It already had the bows on it.  She wasn't that keen on it and I thought it would make a lovely heart.  Think I'll do one for myself now :)

This is another card that I've made recently, a friend asked me to do a Wedding Acceptance card for her and this is what I came up with.

H came home from school early in the week with some daffodils, they hadn't even opened yet.  My first question was 'Where did you get them from!', she assures me that they were from the school field and that they were told that it was ok to take a few.  I hope so!  But I was really touched and she was really pleased when they opened out.  I think they look very cheery.

Finally I was given the Liebster Blog award from  the lovely Samantha at Corsets, Crafts and Cupcakes

I've not heard of this one before and think it is a lovely idea, I was really chuffed that Samantha choose me as I know that I am an infrequent blogger.

It is an award given to bring recognition and give exposure to small blogs that have followers of less than 300 in number. If a blogger is given this award and they choose to accept it, they should then link back to the person who gave them the award, then pick three lovely blogs that they regularly read (also with followers of less than 300) to recommend to others :)

It has been difficult to nominate just 3 but the blogs that I'd like to recommend are:

I hope everyone has a lovely weekend, we're heading off to Ingoldmells on Sunday we're taking H and her friend and L so will be a busy one!  Hopefully the weather will hold out for us :) xxx

Giveaway win

Just a quick post to show you my recent giveaway win.  This was hosted by the lovely Amy from Blighty Boutique, I've been following Amy for awhile now and always enjoy reading her posts.

I'd completely forgotten that I'd won so when the postie knocked on Monday I really didn't know what it was.  This is my parcel.

After I'd opened it.

As you can see a lovely assortment of goodies, a gorgeous oven mit, some Stitching templates, some handmade envelopes, an amazing notebook that looks like an old ladybird book (I love ladybird books!) and some great handcream by Soap and Glory (a brand I love too!).

Thank you so much Amy xxx

And breathe.....

I can't believe how fast half term week went!  And now it's nearly another week over too.  We managed to have some lovely lie in's which I was so ready for.  I really struggle to get up in the mornings, I don't know if it's because I'm not at work or just because I'm getting older but my eyes do not want to open!

We didn't do a great deal over half term except on the Wednesday we went on the train to Nuneaton which is a larger town near to us.  H needed some new school trousers and shoes so I thought it would be more exciting for L if we went on the train.  Which actually he did enjoy, though there was only 2 coaches so we had to stand going and coming back.  L was in his buggy so it didn't really matter for him but my back was killing by the end of the day.  Think I am just getting old! :)

I've been having a clear out too of some of my old paper crafting stuff and that has been very theraputic, and has made me some much needed money too.  Some times you have to be ruthless and think am I going to use this.  I have to say it's looking alot tidier too and that's got to be good.

I did manage to make this card for my friends daughters birthday, I love owls and thought this one was very cute.

I have realised that at the beginning of April I will have been blogging for a year so I need to get busy and put together a little giveaway to celebrate, details to follow.

I hope everyone has a lovely weekend. Nxx

What have I been up to....

As usual it's been a little while since I've blogged, it's because our photos are downloaded onto our old pc not my laptop and it feels like you have to literally wind the thing up to get it started!  Excuses, excuses!

Just thought I'd add some recent photos of what I've been getting up to, or not as the case may be.

This is L, he was playing in the garden Monday and decided that his bucket made a great hat!  I think he can carry the look off.  He used to be so shy about having his photo taken, not now!  He keeps asking me to take another then loves to look at the photos after.  To save having hundreds of the same eventually I prentend to take the photo then keep showing him the same ones.  It works at the moment as he's too small to realise :)

These are my Valetines flowers from the OH, it's also his birthday on Valentines Day so we don't actually do anything Valentines.  I did make some cupcakes but they were all gone before I had chance to take a photo, we are so bad in this house for chocolate and cakes.  Though because I make them with wheat free flour I think that they taste better if you eat them within 24 hours as they seem to go dryer quicker, well that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

Onto the current WIP's I've got going on, or actually not going on to be more precise.  I treated myself to Kirty's Homemade Home book for Christmas and thought one of the crochet boxes would be great by the front door to put keys etc in to keep that area tidy.  Well it would be great if I finished it, I have crocheted one side so far!  Just 3 more sides and the base to go then!

The other WIP I've got going on it our sette blanket, I decided to keep it simple and just do a stripey blanket.  It's just a half treble stitch basically.  I thought the bigger the better and started with a 166 foundation chain, as you can see I've not got very far.  Though the excuse here is that we were watching the Lost series and you really need to keep your eyes on the screen because blink and you'll miss something.

There's no rush to finish it as I just want it finished by the end of the year.

I've also been busy thinking of a new venture, I want to remain a stay at home mum when L goes to school in September next year and I have been thinking of ways to do that.  I shall reveal more when I'm ready to go, it's very exciting though :)

I hope you all had a great weekend and Valentines Day xxx

Tagged!

The lovely Loo from Jumbles and Pompoms tagged me at the end of last year with some fabulous questions.  With so much going on I didn't have time to answer but here they are now:

What did you want to be when you were growing up?

I wanted to be a police officer.

What do you like most about where you live?

We live in a lovely quite col de sac which means that the children can play in the street without too much fear of traffic.

If you could only rescue three things from your house what would they be?

I've struggled a little with this as I'm not a materalistic person but other than my famliy, I would rescue my laptop, memory stick and my mobile.  Things I would need if the house was on fire!

What's your favourite book?

This is quite tough as I love reading and my favourite book depends on the mood I am in.  The books I have read most recently are the Harry Potter series which I loved despite not thinking I would.  I also love anything based on a true story or I'm an avid Agatha Christie fan.

What's your favourite room in your house?

Definitely the lounge, I've got a little corner on our sette that has my laptop, crochet bag and magazines and I don't need to move once I'm there for anything.

What's your favourite joke?

I'm not a very good joke teller.

What would you most like to change about your house?

I 'need' a craft room!

Do you believe in love at first sight?

Yes I do but I don't think it happens for everyone.

Thanks for that Loo, it really got me thinking.  I'd like to tag the following, it's up to you whether you want to accept.  They are new followers to me and I'd like to know more about you too.

Through the Keyhole

Do you remember that programme with Loyd Grossman, I loved it. That's because I am sooooo nosy! I love looking at other people's houses and everyone's house is different.
I love catching a glimpse of fellow bloggers houses when they put pictures up too, naughty me. I'm not ready to put pictures of my house on here because it's just not tidy enough! But I thought I'd show you some of our vintage/retro stuff. Don't be fooled though we've not got some cool house which is a mecca to all things vintage.
This is an old 'The Rythm' iron and no I definitely don't use this, in fact I haven't ironed in 4 years, yes you read that right 4 years.

An old Bush radio, the cross stitch above it was done by my daughter for my OH when she was in the infants school. It's a little grubby but it's very special.

An old clock, not working at the moment. That is an Emma Bridgewater tin in the background and you can just see L's head as he's sat at the table colouring.

This is the top shelf of our little vintage cupboard in the kitchen. Do you remember those milk bottles? We've got loads more in the attic. The mug I picked up at a charity shop for 50p.

This is the second shelf with some old books and bits and bobs.

And the bottom 2 shelves with more glass bottles and nik naks with an old photo of OH's sisters and friend.

And lastly this isn't vintage but it is my favourite picture in the whole world. It was taken when L was only 1 day old, I was lucky to have a wonderful home birth (planned!). H went to bed when I'd just started in labour and woke up a big sister! I put the picture on a sort of scrapbook layout and into a frame. It has pride of place on the wall :). I can't believe how young H looks in this photo too.

Well, I hoped you enjoyed your little tour. xxx
