March Make 2012

As usual its been a little while since I posted but I have been busy though.  I thought I'd have a go at Mixed Media Art as it's something that I've always admired.  Why not add another craft to my ever expanding addition!

I started off by painting a small canvas with Cosmic Shimmer Paints then I stamped around the edges.  I also stamped some Petaloo flowers with a script stamp and stuck them on.  The main flower was some paper that I just cut the image from, basically I just kept adding to it.  It took me all day as I would do a little bit then leave it and go back to it.  I thoroughly enjoyed doing it and will definitely be doing another one.

Me and H went to the NEC yesterday, it was the Hobbycrafts and Sewing fairs there.  We had a fab time and managed to get onto 3 workshops so it wasn't just about shopping.  Though I did come away with a few crafty purchases which I can't wait to get started on.

I'm loving how glorious the weather is at the moment, it definitely lifts the spirits, lets hope it continues.

February Monthly Make 2012

It's been busy here over the last week with half term, I caught up with an old friend I hadn't seen for 2 years on Wednesday it was fantastic to just natter and natter!

I also took the kids to the cinema on Thursday, I didn't realise that the Vue cinema near us does a special showing in the holidays for families.  It's only £1.50 each which was fab as it was only £4.50 for the 3 of us, they also do it on a Saturday and Sunday too.  Having kids with such a large age gap it's difficult to find things they both want to do.

I didn't get the job I went for, I'm disappointed but the interview was a great experience so hopefully something else will come along soon.

H and I have been baking this morning and this is going to be my monthly make for February.

Some yummy chocolate brownies!

We've already had quite a few but are saving some to have with custard after dinner tonight....can't wait!

I've got a job interview!

I'm so excited, I've got a job interview next Thursday.  It's for a part time role at my local Parish Council, nothing too heavy but would fit perfectly with our family life.  I wasn't planning on going back to work till L starts 'big' school in September but if something comes along you've got to go for it haven't you.

It's actually at the place I hold my monthly card classes so the lady that will be my boss and the one who is interviewing me will already know me which I'm hoping will go in my favour :)

I've not had a 'proper' job since I left work in October 2007 on maternity leave and I had been with that company for 8 years so it's been a long time since I've had to apply for jobs or have an interview.  So actually the fact that I sort of know the interviewer a little does help.

I'm just pleased to get an interview, I went for a job at the local school recently to work in the office and I didn't get through to the interview stage so this is one step closer this time.  So fingers and toes crossed!

And I done another make, who'd have thought it.   I recently got a Big Shot die cutting machine and today I finally got it out of the box.

It is fab!  It's really easy to use, I got out my scraps and got stuck in.

This is the first thing I have made, it's a small canvas with butterflies.  It's not my idea, I've seen a few different variations of this on other blogs and actually is one of the reasons I wanted a Big Shot as I loved it so much.  Now I've got my own :)

Have a good week everyone

Monthly Make 2012

I've decided to join The Felt Fairy's Monthly Make for 2012, though I'm not going to include cards as I make them all the time.

I went on my Sewing Workshop on Thursday night and made my first cushion cover.  It was just a simple envelope style but it really did help me get over my fear of the machine.

I'm really pleased with it, I also made the flower on the front, though this was done by hand.  Isn't the fabric gorgeous!

I'm hoping this will be the first of many sewing projects.

They also do other workshops there so I think I'll book another for my birthday in May :)

Here's a link to their Facebook page, it's a fab idea it's like an internet cafe but with machines that you can hire out by the hour.  They also sell fabric and accessories, along with hosting various workshops.

The Sewing Cafe

I hope you've all had a good weekend, we're all full of cold in this house.  We seem to be constantly passing it around!

Happy New Year

Hello, Happy New Year.  I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas and New Year.

We had a quiet family one, though I was poorly with Laryngitis from Christmas Day so didn't indulge as much as I would have liked.  Maybe a good thing!

We weren't too extravagant with our presents, the OH bought me a beginners Sewing Workshop as my main pressie so that I can get over my fear of the sewing machine.  Really looking forward to it.

He also bought me this:

I'm impressed, it's a kit to make some hearts.  His present buying skills have certainly improved over the 9 years we've been together.  Most memorable present was a pen set one Christmas as I worked in an office, though anyone who works in an office will know that most things are done on the pc, but I could see the thinking!

I was also lucky enough to receive some great books too:

Kirstie Allsopp's new book and Phill Vickery's Gluten Free cooking book, both of which are great.  I'm going to try out his Brownies receipe first I think.

Before Christmas I persuaded the OH to decorate the lounge, we've gone from a cool blue to a much nicer warmer sage green.  This means of course that all the blue accessories need to be changed starting with the cushion covers.  I'd seen some knitted ones in Next and thought they looked great and 'I can do that'.  So have started a crocheted cover:

It's slow progress and would have been quicker to buy one but where's the fun in that!  It's just a half treble stitch and I'm going to add some crochet flowers in the same colour sewn on in one corner.

How long does it take everyone else to complete projects?  I think I must crochet really slowly?

Hope you all have a lovely weekend :)

Latest Cards

As usual it's busy, busy, busy round here.  We've just put L down for swimming lessons at the local leisure centre.  He'll be 4 at the end of November so I thought it was about time we took him.  I used to take him swimming when he was a baby but he suffered with so many colds when he was little that it put me off taking him in the end.  Which was such a shame but the sleepless nights when he had a cold were horrendous!

He goes on a Monday at 4pm, my thinking there was that he shouldn't be too tired on a Monday and 4pm was the earliest lesson.  So far, so good.  He went straight in and joined in with the others fine.  Getting him out well that's another matter!

I've been busy making cards for a local beauty salon to stock.

The acceptance and regret cards were for a friend who had been invited to 2 weddings.

I've got my next papercrafting class tomorrow - looks like they'll be 5 people which is great.  Pictures of what we're making are here.

I've been doing local stalls recently and have found them to be really hit and miss, I'm not sure they attract my target market for the classes.  Instead I'm going to go into a couple of local Mums and Tots groups and hope that I get more interest there. You've got to try everything I suppose and see what works for you.

Have a good weekend everyone :)
